The short answer: if your barbershop is all about cuts and fades, choose 6500K above the workstations. If your salon does a lot of colour work, choose 4000K. For mixed use, 4000K as general lighting with extra attention to the colouring area is the most balanced solution. How much light does a barbershop or hair salon need?
In a barbershop, light is a working tool. At the cutting station the recommendation is 500 lux, so that lines, fades and hair texture are clearly visible. For the waiting area, reception and the rest of the room, 300 lux is enough.

4000K vs 6500K?
Colour temperature decides how hair and skin look in the chair – and how they look once the client walks out the door.
4000K is closest to the light in which clients see their hair outdoors and at home. It renders skin tones naturally and is the best choice for colouring: a colour that looks right in the chair also looks right in the evening.
6500K is cooler with a crisp, daylight feel. It emphasises cool tones and gives maximum clarity for fades, lines and texture, which is why it is popular in barbershops.

Why the hexagon works in front of the mirror
A standard ceiling light comes from one direction and leaves hard shadows. In a Hexagon grid the light comes from six sides, so there is no hard shadow on the client's face and no shadow of the stylist's hands on the neckline. - Step dimming 100/60/30% – works from an ordinary light switch, three light levels without separate controls.

Layout and installation

- Use fewer cells above the waiting area, where 300 lux is enough.
- Assemble and test the light on the floor before mounting it to the ceiling.
- Have suspension wires, ceiling plugs and corner connectors ready for installation.
