A Hexagon light needs no electrician: it plugs into an ordinary socket. Installation usually goes wrong for only two reasons – parts are missing, or the assembly is started on the ceiling. This guide prevents both.
1. What is in the box
- LED tubes – the sides of the cells
- Corner connectors – between the tubes; they also carry the current onward
- Power cable – plug and connection to the feed connector
- Stepless dimmable models also include an LED driver, a wireless dimmer and a remote
You will need separately: suspension wires, plus nylon plugs and screws for the ceiling fixing. A timber ceiling needs no plugs – the screw goes straight into the wood.
2. Before you open the box
Measure the room. A 15-cell assembly is 4593 × 2350 mm. It does not fit every room, and it is worth marking the outline on the floor with tape before anything is drilled.
Check the load. A 15-cell fixture weighs about 8.8 kg. The weight spreads over 12 suspension points, so under a kilo per point – but a plasterboard ceiling still needs the right plugs.
Work out where the power comes from. The cable connects to one connector. Decide in advance which corner the lead runs from to the socket.
3. How many parts – and why exactly that many
The part count is not arbitrary; it follows from the shape.

A Y connector joins three tubes, a V connector two. One of the connectors is always the feed connector – that is where the power cable goes. This is why the parts list shows one Y connector more than the geometry alone would need.
A single fixture larger than 18 cells is fed from both ends so the voltage holds all the way. Separate fixtures each need their own cable: four separate crosses means four cables.
4. Assemble on the floor, not on the ceiling
This is the most important point in the guide. Build the whole shape on the floor first:
- Lay out the tubes and connectors on the floor in the shape you want.
- Push the tubes fully home into the connectors. The joint clicks – if it does not click, the contact stays poor and the tube will flicker later.
- Connect the power cable and test the lights on the floor. Finding one dead tube on the floor takes a minute; on the ceiling it takes half an hour.
- Disconnect the power.
5. Mark the suspension points
The wires attach to the branch connectors on the outer edge – the ones where three tubes meet. These are the strongest points in the structure. Connectors on the inside do not need hanging: they carry neighbouring cells, not the ceiling.
With the shape on the floor, measure the distances between the points and transfer them to the ceiling. The easiest way: place the assembly directly below where it will hang and plumb the points upward.
6. Drill, fix, lift
- Drill the holes and insert the nylon plugs. 6 mm for concrete, a dedicated plug for plasterboard.
- Screw the ceiling brackets in place.
- Hang the wires – leave them long at first.
- Lift the assembly with two people and clip the wires to the connectors.
- Adjust the height with the wire lock and check with a spirit level.
Wires come in 1, 2 and 3 metre lengths. One metre suits an ordinary room, two metres a high space. Above 3.5 m it is worth dropping the fixture to 2.5–3 m – that is cheaper than adding cells.
7. Driver and dimmer
Only stepless 0–100 % models need a separate driver. Non-dimmable and stepped models connect directly.
The driver is sized to the load: a 15-cell assembly draws 312 W and needs two 200 W drivers. Mount the driver near the ceiling or on top of a cabinet – it runs warm and needs air around it.
One Q1 remote controls four zones. If you are ordering for several rooms, count the remotes across the whole order – usually one is enough.
8. The most common mistakes
Assembling on the ceiling. Takes several times as long and the joints end up loose.
Connector not fully home. The tube works for a while, then starts to flicker. Push until it clicks.
Too few suspension points. The shape sags and the joints take the strain. Do not economise here – a wire costs €2.
An undersized driver. It trips into protection or runs hot. The configurator sizes it for you.
9. Checklist
