In a salon, lighting is not decoration – it is a tool. The wrong light turns colouring into guesswork, and the client sees a worse version of themselves in the mirror than the one that walked in off the street. This page has the numbers to get it right first time.
How much light does a salon need?
The working position needs 500 lux; 200–300 is enough in the waiting area. More important than the amount, though, is the direction: light must reach the client's face from several angles, not straight down. A single ceiling spot casts shadows under the eyes that add ten years.

Colour temperature: 4000 K or 6500 K?
4000 K is neutral white and usually the right choice for a salon. It shows skin naturally without making the room feel clinical.
6500 K is cool daylight. It is the most accurate for judging colour, but too harsh for a waiting area.
A common solution: 4000 K throughout, 6500 K above the colouring station. Both come from the same range, so the look stays consistent.
Note: stepless 0–100 % dimmable models are made in 6500 K only. If you want 4000 K with dimming, choose the stepped model at 100 / 60 / 30 %.
Colour rendering
These fittings have a CRI above 80. That is fine for general light and for cutting. If you do a lot of demanding colour work and need to judge shades precisely, add a separate CRI 95+ task light at the colouring station. To be straight with you: no general lighting replaces that.
Dimming in the evening
Stepless dimming gives full output during the working day and a soft mood for the last client or for photography. One remote controls four zones, so the working positions and the waiting area can sit at different levels.
Shape
In a salon a row or a chain running parallel to the mirrors usually works better than one cluster in the middle of the ceiling. That way every chair gets light evenly. The diamond chain and the Cross model suit narrow rooms.
