A garage needs about 300 lux of general light and 500–750 lux for detailed work. In practice: 20 m² → 3 cells, 30 m² → 5 cells, 40 m² → 6 cells, 60 m² → 9 cells.
The hexagonal shape spreads light from six sides, so shadows soften – you can see under the bonnet without a head torch. A single long fluorescent tube cannot do that.
What to choose: 6500 K renders colours closest to daylight and is the right call for a workshop or detailing bay. Non-dimmable is enough for most; stepless 0–100 % is worth it if the garage doubles as a living space.
Don't forget: suspension wires and ceiling plugs. A 30 m² layout has six suspension points.
A 30 m² garage draws 120 W – about €13 of electricity a year at two hours of daily use.
